She may be 81 years old but she's up at 2.30am every morning for her daily run -- followed by strength training most days of the week. In 2010, she was given the title of World's Oldest Performing Female Bodybuilder by Guinness World Records.
Meet Ernestine Shepherd from Baltimore in the U.S.
Shepherd didn't start exercising until she was 56 -- after a day of swimsuit shopping with her now late sister. She told The Independent that, before then, she was a secretary who loved chocolate cake and "all kinds of junk food".
She joined the gym under the guidance of a personal trainer and slowly transformed her body, as well as her life.
At 71, "the fittest grandma in the world" started training for her first bodybuilding competition.
Today, she spends her days running, lifting weights and training other senior women too.
Shepherd says she's in the best shape of her life, and feels much better than she did in her forties.
According to her website, these are some of rules she lives by to maintain her shape:
- She gets enough sleep
- She has a positive attitude, views her workouts as fun and part of a necessary health journey
- She aims for around eight glasses of water a day
- She eats five to six small meals a day
- Her husband of more than 50 years, Collin, helps her prepare the healthy meals
What an inspiration she is -- putting women decades her junior to shame.
Shepherd, you are our Woman Crush Wednesday.
