Executive Director, Fredom Of Religion SA
Michael was raised in England, graduating from the University of Bristol with an honours degree in Law before immigrating to South Africa in 1983. Having married Julia in 1988, they co-founded Global Conferences, which today is a leading South African conference and events management company. They also founded Trinity Software, which produced the first computer digital study Bible that incorporated the Afrikaans translations.
Michael’s full-time ministry involvement with His People commenced in 1992 when he was appointed as the Director of Administration, responsible for creating the legal and operational infrastructure of the movement. As the ministry grew over the next 10 years, his role expanded and as the Executive Vice President of His People Christian Ministries he helped to establish His People churches and Bible Schools in 11 nations and represented the movement to governmental and church leadership both nationally and internationally.
In 2003, he and his family relocated to Nashville, USA, where he became a member of the International Ministry Team responsible for helping to oversight the Every Nation churches in Europe and Africa. He spent the next three years travelling and ministering extensively in Europe, Africa, Asia and the USA, assisting and advising church leaders, developing church planting strategies, organising missions and speaking at conferences. He also served as the Executive Pastor of Bethel World Outreach Centre, with its six locations in the Greater Nashville area and lead a successful church plant.
In 2008, Michael moved back into a business context and took up the position of Chief Communications Officer for Louis Group International, a family-owned company with a strong Christian ethos. After Louis Group relocated him to Cape Town, he subsequently co-founded Dreamsmiths Marketing and took on a bi-vocational role, developing and growing this business as well as preaching and teaching in the His People and Every Nation churches and Bible Schools and advising church leadership. Both he and his family are passionate about seeing the purposes of God fulfilled in and through His church in Cape Town, South Africa, Africa and the rest of the world.
In April 2016, Michael opened a significant new chapter when he was appointed to the position of Executive Director of Freedom of Religion South Africa (FOR SA), an organization that exists to protect and promote (both in the courts and in the legislature) the basic Constitutional rights of freedom of religion and conscience for future generations and to inform, lobby and mobilise religious and political leaders and the general public to ensure that these rights are affirmed.
Michael, his wife Julia and daughters Kathryn and Emma now live in Kommetjie, Cape Town.
